This is the web-site of animator Patrick Smith. Pat makes independent animated films, public art installations, fine art, and commercial illustration and animation. Smith made his directorial debut in MTV's stylistic animated series "Down-town", he went on to direct several seasons of the popular animated series "Daria", as well as numerous commercial animation.

Pat Smith's independent films include "Drink" created in 2000. "Drink" is an animated short about a boy that drinks a mysterious liquid that unleashes a universe of personas within himself.

Smith's second independent animated film "Delivery" was created in 2003. "Delivery" is an animated tragedy about two brothers who compete over a delivered package. Through abuse, rage, violence and regret, one brother finds out if the price for his rage is worth the contents found within the delivered box.

Smith's next film is an animated music video for the UK hip hop group "The Planets". The song is called "Moving Along" and is entirely animated. The video takes us through a visual interpritation of the lyrics, focusing on the symbol of common people, moving along, carrying the world on their back. The project was produced by Matt Reeve, Dyna-Mic Records, and Smith's own Blend Films.

Smith recently finished production on "Handshake" his fourth independet short film. it premiered in northampton film festival to a packed house, winning the award for Best Animation."Handshake" will be included on "Avoid Eye Contact" volume II along side Bill Plympton, John Dilworth, Signe Baumane, and other New York artists.

Outside of Independent Animation, Smith directs commercial projects for various clients. He is represented by Pitch Inc. here in New York City. Clients include Pfizer, ESPN, MTV Networks, Southwest Airlines, New York Metro, Deutsch, Kaplan Thaler, just to name a few. Pat Smith is currently directing the "Zoloft" series of commercials for Pfizer, Kaplan Thayer. Furthermore, Smith is animating Drew Carey's new "Green Screen" show for Fox. Other commercial jobs include the AOL running guy, that little guy that runs around on those AOL commercials. Furthermore, Patrick Smith has designed recent artwork for Dairy Queen, Gravity Games, and numerous other clients.

Pat Smith is also an active Public Installation Artist. His last series entitled "Columns" covered downtown new york city with long strips of cartoon characters piled on top of one another forming eight foot high "Columns". The project was made possible by a generous grant from the New York Foundation of the Arts, in which he was made a fellow in 2003. Smith has been in numerous published books, the most recent being "Street Logos" by Tristan Manco. Another round of public art intallations will be going up soon.

Currently, Pat Smith is finishing his next independent short film "I Made a Puppet" (working title) to be released in time for Ottawa Animation Festival. Smith also has over 4 other shorts on his plate, as well as his first feature film, which will go into production in 2005. The film, entitled "PUPPET" premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2006.

In 2003, Patrick Smith, along with 10 other independent animators, started "Square Footage Films", a NYC based DVD distribution company. Their first project is entitled "Avoid Eye Contact" a tour of the best independent animation from New York City. The other animators are: Signe Baumane, Bill Plympton, George Griffin, PES, Fran Krause, Mike Overbeck, Jesse Schmal, John Schnall, and Aleksey Budovsky. Included on the compilation is Smith's "Delivery" and "Drink". This collection is available directly from the artists at Square Footage Films website. "Avoid Eye Contact" can be seen both on the screen and on DVD, there are many festival screenings of part of the program, as well as discussion panels and other appearances. "Avoid Eye Contact" Vol. II is coming out this fall (2004) and will include more shorts from animator Pat Smith. Look for it!

Pat Smith's films have screened world-wide. recently, DRINK and DELIVERY screened at Annecy Animation Festival 2004, as part of the Best of New York City special program.
