DIRECTOR BIO:
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico 1972, youngest of five. Son of a fur trapper turned naval officer. Patrick Smith moved about the country growing up. He attended college at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where professor and painter Jerry Kearns introduced him to New York City. After graduation, Patrick moved to NYC. In 1998, Smith made his directorial debut in the stylistic animated series "Down Town" for MTV Networks. He went on to direct a few seasons of the popular series "Daria" and direct several commercials before making the move to independent films full time. Smith's first professional film "Drink" has been in over 100 film festivals worldwide, including the 2001 Spike and Mikes "Classical Animation" Collection. In addition to animation, Smith is an active Installation Artist and Illustrator, with frequent exhibits in New York City and Los Angeles. His work has been featured in the New York Times, Time Out NY, Animation World Magazine, and Film Threat to name a few. In 2001, Smith founded Blend Films, his Tribeca art studio that primarily produces his independent films. Today, the 33-year-old animator is gearing up for another public installation, writing his first feature, and animating his next independent short, "Handshake" to be released in 2004.
