BAUMANE, Animator.

DIRECTOR BIO:
Signe Baumane was born in Latvia, and lived there until she was 18. She then
moved to Moscow to study Philosophy. There Baumane obtained a BA in Philosophy
as well as a Russian husband. She divorced fairly soon, but before that in 1987
her son Haralds was born. In 1989 Signe started to work in Rigašs Animated Film
Studio as a cell painter and part time animator. In 1991, she got her first
chance to make a film on Latvian Government Grant . In 1993 she got her second
chance to make a film. In 1995 - her third. By 1995 the animator was tired of
waiting and fighting for Government grants, so in September she left for New
York with three of her Latvian films tucked under her belt, looking for independence.
In New York she quickly found the best possible teacher of Animated Independence
- Bill Plympton, in whose studio Signe started to work in January 1996. Baumane
worked on Plymptons 3 features and countless shorts and learned how an independent
animation studio works. In 1998 Signe made her first animated film on American
soil and since then She has been trying to produce films regularly.
